About Niagara MastersWelcome! Niagara District Masters Swimming is the USMS Local Masters Swim Committee governing the Western New York region. The Niagara district includes Buffalo, Rochester, Canandaigua, Syracuse, Ithaca, Binghamton, and all surrounding areas. There are two other LMSCs in New York state covering the Adirondack and Metropolitan regions. Niagara Masters is one of ten Local Masters Swim Committees in the Colonies Zone of United States Masters Swimming (USMS). There are just under 500 registered Masters Swimmers in the Niagara district. Anyone 18 years of age or older is eligible to join Niagara Masters. No prior competitive swimming experience is necessary. Our ranks include swimmers of all abilities from novice swimmers to national champions. United States Masters Swimming is an organization dedicated to competitive and fitness swimming in the US for adult swimmers aged 18 and over. There are over 42,000 swimmers registered with United States Masters Swimming. USMS holds national championships each year for short course yards in the spring and long course meters in the summer. Many USMS swimmers also compete in the Masters world championships, which are held every two years in a long course meters setting. For fitness swimmers, being part of a masters swimming program provides a coached workout for help with swimming technique, and a pool full of teammates to encourage each other to continue with the swimming regimen. USMS also sponsors several fitness challenges throughout the year, such as the 2000 yard fitness challenge and the February fitness challenge. |
