This set illustrates the kind of adaptability that must be designed into our typical practices where there are a wide range of abilities. Option 1 is the “standard” practice as written, and is suitable for most of our competitive swimmers and triatheletes. Option 2 is a more advanced variation. The intensity continues into the next set: sprints are all fly, with more restricted breathing than the standard practice. Option 3 is a less intense variation suitable for senior competitive swimmers and fitness swimmers. Via these options the team is able to practice together, on the same intervals, to minimize confusion and maximize support.
